Centering Lines
Each lino press has centering lines which we have carefully laser burnt onto the bottom plate of the press. The centering lines form a matrix which makes relief printing easier. This also helps to ensure you always position the paper exactly in the center of the machine.
The lines feature a centering cross, as well as the various paper sizes the lino press supports. For the A4 relief printing, this includes lines in A6, A5, and A4 sizes.
Two Levers for Each Press Size
For maximum comfort when relief printing, our different size lino presses feature two levers for each press size. This makes it easier to apply even pressure on linocut prints by simply leaning into the machine with both hands. The movement of the levers is extremely smooth, too, ensuring that even kids can apply the right pressure every time.
A4-Size Format
The medium size lino press is a welcome companion in any studio, home, cottage, or open-air space. Really, it’s possible to take this relief printing press anywhere thanks to its compact size and portability. It’s also easy to store on any shelf, or away in cupboards when you are not lino printing. Full-Edge Printing
Each of our portable lino printing presses feature wooden press plates that are larger on the sides by 1 cm more than the specific paper format. This not only ensures that it is always easy to insert paper. It also makes it possible to print to the paper’s very edge. For this, the wooden pressing plate of the A4 lino press is 320 x 230 mm in size.
Even Pressure
The complete thickness of the relief printing plate is 48 mm, guaranteeing even pressure across the entire printing surface.
Also notice the cedar color paint on the plates, which matches the natural color of the linocut press.
Adjustable Tilt
The top plate of the lino press has an adjustable tilt, ensuring it rests evenly on the matrix and paper during relief printing. For this, there are adjustments on the sides of the machine. These are easily adjustable to move the top plate into position, and to lock the plate back into place.
Highly Durable
With a steel frame coated in powder, the A4 type lino press is both durable and easy to wash. The machine has 5 mm-thick flat steel bars, and has a load capacity up to 100 kg.
Non-Slip Positioning
Rubber strips on the bottom of the lino press function to keep your machine in place no matter how much pressure you apply to printing. They offer slip protection, and also help to protect workspace surfaces from scratches. Additionally, the linocut press has pre-drilled holes in the base so that you can securely mount it to workspace surfaces.

What is the best ink to use for the lino press?
We highly recommend oil-based inks for use with our linocut printing press. These inks have a thicker consistency, higher opacity, and richer pigment content compared to water-based inks. Water-based inks tend to dry faster, and this can cause the ink to dry on the matrix before it’s printed, which might result in issues. For optimal results, oil-based inks are the best choice for block printing press projects.
What is the maximum thickness of the matrix I can print on the printmaking press?
Our hand printing press is designed to handle materials up to 3 cm thick. This makes it ideal for printing woodcuts, engravings, letters, and various other matrices, providing flexibility for a wide range of projects.
What is the correct order - lino, paper, felt?
In our experience, the most effective order for printing with our relief press is: start with the matrix, followed by placing the paper on top of the matrix, and then the felt over the paper. This ensures that the top plate presses evenly onto the matrix, resulting in a clean and sharp print.
What is the recommended amount of ink for the lino printing press?
For best results, we recommend performing test prints to determine the ideal amount of ink for your lino print press. When using oil-based inks, you can dilute them with turpentine oil for optimal consistency. Hand printing presses typically require more ink than other types of presses, like cylinder presses, so be prepared to use a generous amount of ink for clear, crisp prints.
Can I print small matrices on a larger press?
Absolutely! Our relief press is designed to accommodate both small and large matrices. For smaller matrices, we recommend positioning them in the center of the press. You can even print multiple smaller matrices at once, as long as they are of the same thickness. This allows you to maximize your time and resources when working with different projects on your block printing press.
What can be used to clean the lino press of ink?
To clean the lino press after printing, we suggest using rubbing alcohol or turpentine oil, especially if you’re using oil-based inks. For water-based inks, water or soapy water will suffice to clean the press. Proper cleaning will ensure that your lino printing press stays in great condition and is ready for your next project.
Is the press suitable for dry needle / gravure printing?
Although our relief press can handle smaller formats of dry needle or gravure printing, we recommend it primarily for linocut printing, monotype printing, and similar techniques. With gravure printing, especially on larger formats, the results might not always be as tight as with a press specifically designed for that purpose.
