Basic types of linoleum for linocut

When it comes to linocut, choosing the right type of linoleum can make a big difference in the quality and ease of your work. Here are the main types of linoleum used for linocut and their characteristics. Every artist is sure to find the right one for them after experimenting. 1. Traditional linoleum

Made from natural materials such as linseed oil, wood flour, resin and limestone.

Properties.

Suitable for detailed and long-term projects.

Cons: Can be harder to cut, especially for beginners.

 

2. Soft-cut linoleum (art linoleum)

Composition: Specially designed for artistic purposes, often made of softer materials than traditional linoleum.

Features: softer and easier to cut, smooth surface, ideal for fine details.

Use: Suitable for beginners and projects with fine details.

Cons: Less durable than traditional linoleum, may be more susceptible to damage with heavy use.

 

3. Vinyl linoleum

Can be more delicate and may require more refinement than more delicate linoleum.

Composition: Made of PVC (polyvinyl chloride), softer than traditional linoleum.

Features: very soft and easy to cut, available in various thicknesses.

Suitable for quick and short-term projects, experimentation and for beginners.

Cons: Less durable, can wear out faster.
